Snowy Day

Posted by lindak on December 5, 2011

Hey – school’s closed.  What are you doing?  Turn off the TV and read!

My new favorite book:  Heart to Heart by Lurlene McDaniel. What do you know about “cellular memory”? Some people think that donated organs carry a memory which then becomes part of the recipient’s life.  Excellent read!

Another favorite: Call Me Hope by Gretchen Olson.  When does a mother’s disapproval and criticism turn into verbal abuse?  How does Hope deal with it?

Check the wall when you get back to school.  Many more “Ms. Keulen Reads” are going up!

Summer Reading Smackdown Results

Posted by lindak on September 5, 2011

Wow and wow!  Our readers wiped me out!  Congratulations to our super smackdown readers:

Winning Team:  Cassidy and Angela with 194 combined hours

Runner Up Team: Shea, Josie, and Lotty with 85 combined hours

Teacher Winner: Mrs. Miller with 89 hours

Honorable Mention: Rebecca C with 30 hours

Me – only 80 hours.  I demand a rematch!!!

To put these hours in perspective, here’s a math problem for you.  There were 77 days of summer. If you read only 15 minutes every day, you would have read 19.25 hours.  These readers obviously read WAAAY more than 15 minutes a day.

I am so very proud of you readers!

Smackin!!

Posted by lindak on July 3, 2011

Hi students!  How’s the reading going?  I’ve read over 30 hours so far…how about you?  The best book I’ve read so far is “Lost in the Sea of Grass”. Mrs. Naeb loaned it to me and I’m buying a copy for our library. Awesome!!

Don’t forget to come see us on Tuesdays. On your 2nd visit you will receive a red reading wristband; on the 5th visit you will get a Roosevelt water bottle and your name will be put into the drawing for a t-shirt.

I’ll be watching for you!
